World Bank supported initiative, www.procurementlearning.org was declared a Runner Up in the category “e-education, learning and employment” from among 69 nominations and 8 finalists at the 2014 Manthan Awards for Digital Inclusion and Development (South Asia and Asia Pacific), instituted by DEF (Digital Empowerment Foundation, India), in partnership with World Summit Award, and Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India. A K Kalesh Kumar, Task Team Leader for the portal received the Certificate, on behalf of partner institutions and the World Bank.
Other winners in this category included the national e-learning portal for education www.e-thaksalawa.moe.gov.lk run by the Ministry of Education and the Govt. of Sri Lanka. An innovation from Bangladesh called iChemist www.xfastgames.com/ichemist and an Indian Scholarship information portal www.buddy4study.com also won accolades in this category.
2014 has been the 11th year of Manthan awards and in 13 categories, there were 400 nominations received from 36 countries in South Asia and Pacific region. The award ceremony was held in New Delhi India and the day long activities on the 4 December 2014 included panel discussions, presentations by finalists, an ICT expo and a digital film festival. Procurementlearning.org set up a stall for disseminating the information about various learning programs offered.
Launched in March 2014, www.procurementlearning.org is an initiative supported by the World Bank offering learning programs and networking opportunities for procurement professionals around the world. The learning portal is the outcome of two years of research and development effort undertaken by the South Asia team of Public Integrity and Openness, Governance Global Practice of the World Bank, in association with premier academic and management training institutions in the South Asia region. It offers free MOOC programs Certificate Program in Public Procurement (CPPP), and Certificate Program in Contract Management (CPCM) and a paid blended program Professional Diploma in Public Procurement (PDPP).
